Naturalized U.S. citizens, Sheela Murthy and Vasant Nayak are originally from India, with strong connections and deep gratitude to both their adopted home in Baltimore, Maryland, and to their homeland. Sheela Murthy is founder, CEO, and president of the Murthy Law Firm, specializing in representing clients in matters of U.S. immigration law. Built by the couple as a family business, the Murthy Law Firm has always operated with a heart - providing free information through many outlets to the vulnerable, often frightened and disenfranchised, immigrant population in the United States.

Like the rest of the world, the events of September 11, 2001 made Ms. Murthy and Mr. Nayak acutely aware of the fragility of life. In the fleeting moments given to us in this lifetime, they believe we have an obligation to give back to our community and to the causes we hold dear. Serious consideration was given to how they might repay both countries, thereby contributing to the betterment of the world as a whole. To that end, the MurthyFoundation, Inc. (doing business as the MurthyNayak FOUNDATION) was established as a nonprofit charitable organization. This is a family foundation, propelled by the concerns and passions of Sheela Murthy and Vasant Nayak.
